My name is Joseph (Joe for short), and I grew up in the mountains of Colorado. My goal as a therapist has always been to reduce suffering and increase life satisfaction; simple as that. I do so by using clinical knowledge, compassion, respect, and humor to create a safe therapeutic environment for my clients to learn about, and improve themselves. I have been working in the mental health field since 2006, and I've been practicing as a therapist since 2010. In addition, I've enjoyed the privilege of training/supervising clinicians in various roles for the past decade, which has allowed me to further expand the reach of my own therapeutic efficacy. I have treated clients for issues ranging from mild mood and anxiety disorders to chronic schizophrenia. For most of my career, most of my clients have been adolescents/young adults and their families, often in a context where there is concern for the onset or presence of a mental health condition. As a specialist in the prevention of mental illness, and as a family/youth oriented therapist, I am experienced in helping to alleviate the distress of psychiatric symptoms, mitigate behavioral issues, and resolve relational conflict. My results are, and have been, consistently positive. Helping others manage life's challenges is my most rewarding endeavor as a professional, and as a human being. Fundamentally, my theoretical perspective is Humanistic/Rogerian, where unconditional positive regard is maintained and curiosity with empathy is employed at all times. However, I identify as an integrative therapist: I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), the Structured Interview for Psychosis-Risk Syndromes (SIPS) assessment, the Portland Identification and Early Referral (PIER) model for mental health disorder prevention, and Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT).
