Jonathan Rowland, PMHNP

I have lived in Sacramento for the last four years, but I am originally from Niagara Falls, New York. Before healthcare, I was in the Marine Corps infantry for six years. I enjoy fitness, scuba diving, and travel. Growing up, I witnessed many of the people around me suffering from mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and drug abuse. This encouraged me to want to care for others. So, I became a Registered Nurse in 2010 and worked in many different specialties including emergency, intensive care, neurosurgery, and cancer treatment. After years of caring for people in the hospital, I decided that it was time to advance my degree and become more involved in directing care. In 2020, I completed my advanced degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner but soon came to the realization that mental health is the center of all care. If a person is depressed, anxious, or have another mental health concern, they are more likely to not take care of themselves in other ways. This realization helped to make my decision to become a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2021. As a clinician, there is no better feeling than changing someone's life and playing a part in their happiness. Common diagnoses that I prefer treating include depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Ultimately, I enjoy helping clients with any problem that they have and working to improve their lives and mental state; together.
