Laurence Luther Smith, LCSW
Laurence is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) at Foresight Folsom. He received a Master of Social Work degree from San Jose State University, with an emphasis in Health/Mental Health. He has more than 29 years of experience in a variety of roles such as group home counselor, 1-1 behavioral coach, community resource developer, grant writer, consultant/quality reviewer, and therapist. He has served in a variety of settings, including residential treatment, crisis, home-based, community-based, outpatient, and school-linked services.
His approach to helping is guided by the extensive experience and training he received in the wraparound model - a values-based planning process and philosophy of care that has evolved over several years as an alternative to residential treatment for children, youth, and their families. He believes that the wraparound principles can be universally applied to many settings and populations.
Laurence has worked with a variety of clients of all ages, experiencing a variety of difficulties such as anxiety, depression, anger, and grief. Most recently, he has especially enjoyed working with young adults navigating the challenges and opportunities of independence, often striving to develop new and healthy relationships with parents.
He believes in the power of creativity, curiosity, and humor. Laurence says he is grateful for the teamwork and dedication of his colleagues, and what he has learned from the clients he has been honored to work with.
