LICENSED IN: California

I have been working in the fields of substance abuse and mental health since 2006, and specialize in treating clients with Co-Occurring Disorders. Prior to entering the MSW program at San Jose State University, I studied Sociology at UC Santa Cruz, and received my BA degree in 2005. I have a solid background in social theory, and I apply social theory as part of my clinical approach, thus enhancing the therapeutic process. I have built upon my theoretical foundation by gaining experience in direct client services; in 2006 I initiated my career at a 12 bed dual-diagnosis treatment facility in Watsonville, CA. After receiving my Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2008, I gained invaluable experience working with diverse populations at Momentum for Mental Health in San Jose, the VA Outpatient Clinic in San Jose, and in both private ptactice and County public health care settings. I continue to keep abreast of contemporary evidenced-based practices in substance abuse and mental health treatment, and utilize evidence-based practices rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My empathetic approach, in which I actively listen to clients and reflect their goals, values, and struggles, fosters understanding and clarity. I am continuously working towards my ongoing professional development, as well as that of my staff. I strive to foster an atmosphere of professionalism and excellence through ongoing education and clinical supervision. The research shows us best practices in substance abuse counseling, but we can also learn from each other based upon our own life experience and knowledge of what works. I am committed to collaborative relationships with clients to maximize their capacity for growth and their ability to become resilient-to the many speed bumps and potholes along life’s path.”
