I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a passion for working with vulnerable populations. My extensive background as a Mental Health Registered Nurse includes experience in urgent care, inpatient acute settings, and providing care for Veterans with conditions such as PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). I am bilingual, which enables me to connect deeply with diverse communities, particularly the Hispanic population, where I aspire to educate and empower individuals about mental health. Looking ahead, I am eager to expand my expertise by working with adolescents, helping to address their unique mental health needs and fostering resilience for their future.
What inspires me to work in the field of mental health is the profound impact it has on individuals, families, and communities. Mental health care provides a unique opportunity to empower people during some of their most vulnerable moments, helping them find hope, healing, and resilience. I am inspired by the stories of strength and recovery I have witnessed throughout my career—whether it’s helping a veteran regain a sense of purpose, guiding a young person through their struggles with anxiety, or supporting a family in understanding and managing a loved one’s condition. The ability to connect with people on such a deep level, to provide tools that foster self-growth, and to advocate for those who often feel unseen drives my passion for this work. Additionally, I am motivated by the ongoing need to break the stigma surrounding mental health. I see every interaction as a chance to educate, empower, and normalize conversations about mental well-being, particularly within underserved or culturally diverse communities, where access to care and understanding may be limited. Finally, I am inspired by the ever-evolving field of mental health, which offers opportunities for lifelong learning and innovation. Knowing that my work can make a tangible difference in someone’s quality of life is the greatest reward and the reason I continue to be deeply committed to this profession.
I tailor my approach to each patient by building a strong therapeutic alliance rooted in trust, active listening, and cultural sensitivity. I take the time to understand their values, preferences, and goals, ensuring these are central to their treatment plan. Using shared decision-making, I provide education about evidence-based options and collaboratively design a plan that aligns with their needs. I regularly monitor progress, seek feedback, and make adjustments to ensure the care remains effective and patient-centered. By addressing barriers, involving support systems when appropriate, and empowering autonomy, I strive to deliver personalized care that respects the individual while achieving meaningful outcomes.
