My passion for mental health stems from a deep-seated love for learning and a genuine desire to help people navigate the complexities of their psychological landscapes. I am driven by the belief that everyone has the potential to achieve their optimal level of functioning, and my goal is to facilitate this process using evidence-based practices, a touch of humor, and strong rapport. In my work, I strive to help clients understand psychological concepts and, more importantly, themselves. By fostering self-compassion and creating an environment where they feel truly understood, I aim to make a lasting impact on their lives. I believe that the therapeutic journey is a collaborative adventure, where the client leads the way, and I provide the necessary support and guidance. Through our sessions, I help clients explore their inner world, uncovering insights and developing strategies that promote mental well-being. Using evidence-based practices ensures that our work is grounded in proven methodologies, while humor and rapport help to create a safe, engaging, and relatable therapeutic space. Ultimately, my hope is to empower my clients to reach their fullest potential, equipping them with the tools and self-awareness needed to thrive. Together, we embark on a transformative journey, where each step brings deeper understanding and greater self-compassion.
In my therapeutic practice, I integrate Personality Theory, Adlerian Theory, Psychoanalysis, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to create individualized treatment plans. Personality Theory helps tailor approaches based on unique traits, while a Strengths-Based approach fosters empowerment. Adlerian Theory emphasizes social connections and purposeful goals. Psychoanalysis explores unconscious influences, and IFS fosters self-compassion by integrating internal parts. CBT and DBT offer practical tools for managing thoughts and emotions. A thorough assessment of attachment styles, trauma, family, and social history ensures a comprehensive view, promoting deeper understanding and holistic mental well-being. I enjoy working with a diverse range of communities and people. I have primarily worked with children, adolescents, and families. I have helped patients with anxiety, depression, trauma and ADHD. However, in my experience working in community mental health services allowed me to engage with patients who have trauma, psychotic disorders, addictive disorders, and personality disorders. It has been fascinating and fulfilling to work with people from various socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, and levels of mental health severity. This diverse exposure has enriched my practice and deepened my understanding of the unique challenges and strengths within different communities, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic approach to mental health care.
My journey as a therapist and professor has been deeply enriching, both professionally and personally. Teaching graduate classes, such as, Psychopathology and Applying Research to Practice has provided me with the opportunity to learn various assessment tools, delve into diverse theories, and engage with high-quality research. This dual role of professor and therapist has been a joy, allowing me to interact with brilliant minds and support them on their journeys. One of the highlights of my career has been working on a Collaborative Care Model. Collaborating closely with physicians and psychiatrists has given me invaluable insights into the integration of medical care and mental health, highlighting the critical connection between physical wellness and mental well-being. Working in various therapy settings has been incredibly rewarding, as it has enabled me to engage with an array of wonderful individuals and continuously strengthen my clinical expertise. Each of these experiences has enriched my practice, fostering a holistic and empathetic approach to mental health care.
